Make-up Tutorial: Make-up for 12-13 year olds
This topic was submitted to me by a girl who isn't allowed to wear a lot of makeup. Well I'm blonde so I have blonde eyelashes&short eyelashes too&when i was 12-13 my mom didnt let me wear a lot of makeup. Your parent(s) probably dont want you looking like this picture below. So hopefully these tips and steps will help you achieve a look both you and your parents can agree on.
Supplies:
*light colored eyeshadow
*eyeshadow brushes (can use ones in container i prefer makeup brushes)
*chapstick, blistex, whatever kind of lip balm you like best
*lip gloss
*mascara (blonde-light brunette I'd recommend brown or black-brown mascara. Middle/dark brunette-any darker id recommend black mascara)
*eyelid primer (if you plan on using eyeshadow)
*coverup (that matches your skin tone)
You probably don't really need foundation because you're so young so you most likely have great skin already but if you do decide to use foundation be sure to have your mom, older sister, or some other older female help you pick out the color that best matches your skin tone.
I also wouldnt recommend trying bronzer yet because it can get a little complicated to get the perfect tone that gives you a glow but doesnt make you look like you walked out of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory :) but if you do decide to use bronzer check out my tutorial on that :)
I wouldnt recommend using eyeliner yet because it is very easy to over-do it and make it too heavy. For many parents, they'll let their daughters try makeup with some rules such as not too much&if you blow it, they wont like the idea of you using makeup for a long time. So the best advice i can give is get it right the first time(s) so your parents will have more trust and confidence in you not to "misuse" the privelege of makeup :)
So there are two ways I'm going to discuss with you today about makeup suggestions for 12-13 year olds. They both revolve around eyes since i wouldnt recommend using foundation, blush, or bronzer yet (although for suggestions on using those, explore my site they're up here).
The first one is making your eyes up with eyeshadow. So the supplies you'll need is basically everything listed in the supply list above. You're going to start by making sure your face is clean (but not wet) and your hands are clean too. If your face is breaking out use your coverup (Neutrogena has an awesome one that I highly recommend-check my product reviews). You lightly dab a big of the coverup on the pimple and basically rub it into the skin on and around the pimple until the coverup has blended perfectly with your skin. Make sure you chose a coverup that matches your skin tone. Next take your lip balm of your choice and apply it to your lips. Put on as much as you want. I'd say about three to five coats should be sufficent depending on your lips and how dry they are. While this soaks into your lips we're going to focus on eyes. Now I'd recommend choosing an eyeshadow color palatte like the one in the picture below with a light cream sort of color, light brown, and darker brown. You're also going to need your eyelid primer and mascara handy. (Btw- wondering what eyelid primer is and the importance of it? I have a makeup section dedicated to that) start by applying your eyelid primer to your eyelid. Just a thin coat will do, it doesnt have to be too thick. Then just basically flap your hand over each eyelid a couple times to get some air on it so it drys a little.
Here is some tips on what eyeshadow colors to use according to your eye color:
Blue eyes- I know it sounds a little crazy, but with blue eyes stay away from the blue eye shadow. If you really want your eyes to pop wear earth tones such as browns, taupe, grays or even a little gold. You could also try purple or pink eyeshadow, it makes a very nice contrast to the blue in you eyes.
Brown eyes- Brown eyes can really get away with wearing almost any color eyeshadow. But if you want your eyes to pop greens, pinks and blues would be best. Also if you have glod flecks in your eyes you might want to try a eyeshadow that has a gold shimmer to it. Brown eyes can pull off brown eyeshadow but be careful because some tones can look muddy against your brown eyes.
Green eyes- Like blue eyes and blue eyeshadow, green eyes and green eyeshadow shouldn't mix. In order to get your green eyes to pop warm mocha brown shades, taupe colors, and slight hints of gold will help. Also if you want your eyes to seem dramatic purple eyeshadow will contrast very well with your eyes and make them both pop and seem more dramatic
Hazel eyes- Hazel eyes are very much like green eyes, using brown, taupe or purple/lavender tones will make them pop. Also Hazel eyes usually have a variety of flecks in them so you can experiment with other colors to see what helps.
Ok so after you make sure your eyelid primer has dried a little bit, take a light shade of the color eyeshadow you are using (according to the color of your eyes) and apply it to the very inside corner of your eye (it is usually a light gold, pink or purple) After that take your darkest shade (but don't make it too ark like black or dark brown) and aply it from the top creas of you eyelid and down, don't mess up the eyeshadow you already put in the inside corner of you eye though.
Next take the lightest colored eyeshadow (usually a pale pink or light skin color) and sweep it from your brow bone to the crease of your eyelid. Blend the two colors together at the crease and picking up your darker color you may decide to bring it up the outer side a little but blending it with the light color a lot so it isnt as noticable (as in picture). Basically at this point experiment with different ways you like these two colors mixing. Once you found an eyeshadow look you like, unscrew your mascara. Apply it from the roots of your eyelashes to the tip. Don't put it on too heavy, I'd recommend maybe three coats. It should look something like the picture, not too heavy. Next you're going to take your lip gloss (not lip balm) and apply it on your lips over the lip balm you early applied for a shiny, glossy look.
The next look is one I use a lot because i refuse to go anywhere without makeup on so this look takes me about thirty seconds but it gives me the makeup i need to be able to face the public. The same supplies are necessary except you do not need eye shadow or eye shadow brushes. Next take your mascara and put about three coats on. Finish the look off by taking a lip gloss tube and swiping it across your lips.
Hope this helps!! :)
